Leave Your Legacy: Pet Peeves (Summer 2013)

Another published Leave Your Legacy (LYL) article for me in the Summer 2013 issue of Canadian Scrapbooker magazine!

As always, with each issue, I challenge our readers to participate.  (To learn more about the LYL articles and challenges, please visit my LYL page for more info)  Each quarter, I share my layout and invite you to link up your layouts completed for this challenge here to share with everyone.  I am even going to throw in a prize for each challenge!

For this issue, the topic is Pet Peeves.  While some scrapbook simply for the artistic expression, many of us enjoy this hobby because it allows us to document the memories that we want to remember, and to pass on to future generations.  The goal of the LYL challenge is to share ourselves with them.  In the past, we have touched on some difficult subjects, like our greatest fears and how we deal with change.  But we can also document the lighter side of things – like our pet peeves!

Here's my layout, titled "Bad Grammar makes me [sic]":

Supplies used:  Bazzill Basics cardstock; Bo Bunny and Scenic Route patterned paper; 7Gypsies and Recollections washi tape; Quick Quotes die-cut chipboard; Unity Stamp Co. stamps; The Crafter’s Workshop stencil; DecoArt paint; Maya Road sheer doily and trinket pins; Wilton doily; Heartfelt Creations die; Silhouette Cameo die cutter; Arial font and Loni Stevens word bubble cut file; Lori Whitlock chevron border cut file; Martha Stewart Crafts and EK Success punches; Melissa Francis vintage pearl button; Sakura pen; vintage lace; burlap; watercolour paints; miscellaneous half-pearls, star paperclip, beads and buttons.

Psst... look!  Another photo-less layout!  As I explained with the last challenge, the importance of LYL is the actual telling of the story.  The real reason for the layout.  I've said it before, I'll say it again:

What you SEE in this layout is not as important as what you READ.

(Even if the subject matter is on the lighter side!)

This is also my very FIRST patterned-paper-less layout!  The flowers, butterflies and title effects are all done using washi tape!

I hope I don't offend anyone who may say any of the listed grammatical errors!  I know that my kids were guilty of the "I seen" instead of "I have seen" or "I saw" until I badgered them into saying it correctly! I blame the writer in me... and my Grade 10 English teacher, Mr. Butler, who was very strict about proper grammar!

I encourage my readers to create a layout based on this challenge and to please share a link below to your LYL layout or project that is posted in an online gallery or on your blog.  I'd love to see what you create!

Because I believe in the importance of leaving your legacy, I am offering up a prize for one lucky winner!  The prize will be scrapbooking/stamping gift basket worth $50, including the new Volume 6 of the Canadian Scrapbooker Basics series!

This challenge runs from now until 11:59pm on Aug 31st, 2013.  I will draw a name from the entries submitted and post the winner on September 1st.  Please feel free to email me at sue[AT]canadianscrapbooker[DOT]com, if you have any questions about linking your project.

Cheers,

P/S:  Don't forget about the other challenges on my blog for a chance to win:

  1. Fun Challenge, I entered one I had submitted to the Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine, for this call out. Sorry about the grammar and spelling, I was just ripping off a note on a literal scrap of paper when I wrote it. I didn't even see the errors until I went to scrapbook it.
