As always, with each issue, I challenge our readers to participate. (To learn more about the LYL articles and challenges, please visit my LYL page for more info) Each quarter, I share my layout and invite you to link up your layouts completed for this challenge here to share with everyone. I even going to throw in a prize for each challenge!
For this issue, the topic is Embracing Change. At some point in our lives, we have all come across change - some welcome, others... not so much! How we deal with it speaks volumes about our personality - that's the stuff our kids and grandkids want to know about!!
Here's my layout:
You may have noticed a trend here in my LYL layouts. In my first one, I used a stock photo. My second was photoless. And in this one, I'm not even using my own photos (thanks, Lisanne!). You may be wondering why, especially since photography is my thing... But as I said last month, the importance of LYL is the actual relay of the story. The real reason for the layout. I want to leave a little piece of me for future generations and if a photo of me or something I love will help, great! But it's not necessary - the story behind it all is what's important. I've said it before, I'll say it again:
What you SEE in this layout is not as important as what you READ.
Let that just sink in for a moment.
Journaling reads:
Before, the thought of change was met with fear or uncertainty. But I have come to believe in Fate, and that things happen for a reason. So, while change may be scary, it is usually an important step in the evolution of my character.
There are many firsts for me on this layout, not least of which being the stencils/misting! While I know I've used watercolour splatters on a layout, and the stencil/misting combination on canvasses, this was new for me:
I laid the stencil down on my SuperStock, and covered the remaining areas with paper towel, so I got a clean image (i.e. no overspray over the edge of the stencil). I used the Stephanie Barnhard sprays from Clearsnap - such gorgeous colours and a nice fine mist.
Another first is a long-ish title with itty-bitty letter stickers. These Micro Alphabet stickers from Basic Grey are wicked awesome and the perfect size for a long quote/title:
I digitally altered Lisanne's photo, using an old digital freebie from Jessica Sprague's grunge mask. I have tried to find a link online to share, but haven't had any luck. If you can find a link, please leave me a comment so I can link to it to share with my blog readers - It's been about 6 or 7 years and I still love the effect!! Not that Lisanne's gorgeous photo needed any enhancements:
The bunting and part of the title was cut with my Silhouette and the Ecolier font (coming soon to a FreeFontFriday near you... ;)) :
Because it was such a "bendy" font, I just printed it out straight and attached it in an arc but I guess I could have arc'd it right in Silhouette? Not sure - may have to play with that one...
With the last challenge, I ran into some issues with my linky list portion, which meant that readers were unable to share their layouts. Because of that, I am once again offering the sold out kit from Cocoa Daisy, Tea & Cupcakes:
Isn't it positively yummy?! Click here for a list of contents.
As mentioned previously, I'm testing a new linky tool service so please share a link below to your LYL layout or project that is posted in an online gallery or on your blog for a chance to win (I will add mine just as an example) - I'd love to see what you create! Challenge runs from now until May 31st, 2013. Please feel free to email me at sue[AT]canadianscrapbooker[DOT]com, if you have any questions about linking your project.
Cheers,
P/S: Don't forget about the following challenge on my blog for a chance to win:
It's a Sketchy Challenge: February 2013 (deadline: Mar 14/13)
I absolutely adore that layout Sue! I was admiring it on Pinterest yesterday - I had no idea you created it! It's beautiful! It's like I needed to see it too as I'm about to leave for my cardiac ablation surgery this morning. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jen!! I didn't know it had made it to Pinterest! Hope everything went well today!!
