Leave Your Legacy | Don't Stop Believing (Summer 2014)

After a brief hiatus, my LYL challenge is back, as featured in the Summer 2014 issue of Canadian Scrapbooker magazine!

More about LYL:  As always, with each issue, I challenge our readers to participate. (To learn more about the LYL articles and challenges, please visit my LYL page for more info) In every other issue, I share my challenge and invite you to link up your layouts completed for this challenge here to share with everyone. I am even going to throw in a prize for each challenge!

While some scrapbook simply for the artistic expression, many of us enjoy this hobby because it allows us to document the memories that we want to remember, and to pass on to future generations. The goal of the LYL challenge is to share ourselves with them.

Everyone has something that they believe in, a cause that is worth fighting. It could be the fight against cancer, or equal rights for all. Or perhaps it’s the need to stop childhood obesity or bullying in school. Or maybe it's the importance of teaching young girls to love themselves just as they are, or to be strong enough to be themselves.

Our efforts show our compassion and define some of the things that are important to us. This is precisely why documenting our endeavours is fundamental in leaving our legacy to future generations.

My inspiration for this article was my sister.  You may remember reading about her first tea party fundraisers on my blog here.  The event raised over $2,000 in a few hours with just 30 or 40 ladies in attendance.  The next year, she went bigger and raised over $12,000!  Over the next few years the fundraiser raised nearly $30,000 more.  And we're still going strong!  We just had our 5th Annual Miss Lizzy's Tea fundraiser last weekend - our biggest yet!!  I will share photos soon!

To think that it all began with a little tea party for some friends on International Women's Day…

Here's my layout:

Supplies:  Bazzill Basics cardstock; Me and My Big Ideas sticker (hope arrow); Basic Grey alphas (grey) Silhouette Cameo; Great Vibes font (“tea party”); Pink Paislee chipboard (butterflies); Evalicious badge button; Recollections washi tape; Maya Road trinket pins and sheer doily; VersaColor ink; 3L foam adhesive; Pebbles journaling tag (grey/white); Making Memories stamp and rhinestone brad; Spectrum Noir marker (IG3); PaperMate Flair marker; Offray ribbon; The Twinery twine; unknown tag (pink).

A very simple page for me - no patterned paper!  I used colour washi tape in its' stead.

The puffy MAMBI sticker was found on a clearance end at Michaels.  I love the subtle dimension!

Using one of my favourite fonts (Great Vibes), I cut the title out of cardstock with my Silhouette Cameo.

The Maya Road sheer doily peeking out from the photo is probably my favourite part.  And you wanna know a secret? I cut it in half so I could use it on another page!! It's certainly not that I don't enough to go around… #hoarder #ihaveaproblem #loveMR

The large pink tag was a purchase from my FIRST trip to SK (in 2009!) (see #hoarder…) - I wish I could give credit to the manufacturer but it was purchased a la carte and I couldn't find it online.  It houses my journaling and is tucked under the photo.  I used a rhinestone brad to keep it from sliding down.

The journaling talks about how the tea party came to be!

I encourage my readers to create a project based on this challenge and to please share a link below to your LYL layout or project that is posted in an online gallery or on your blog. I'd love to see what you create!

Because I believe in the importance of leaving your legacy, I am offering up a prize of some yummy scrapbooking/stamping goodies for one lucky winner!

Because this article will appear in every other issue, there's more time to complete this challenge!  It  runs from now until 11:59pm on Nov 30th, 2014. I will randomly draw a name from the entries submitted and post the winner on or around December 1st. Please feel free to email me at sue[AT]canadianscrapbooker[DOT]com, if you have any questions about linking your project.

Cheers,

52 Week Journal: Week 1

As you may remember from December, I mentioned that I would be completing a 52-week journal in 2013, a sort of snapshot of each week, using wonderfully doodled pages by Christie Zimmer of www.graceisoverrated.com.

I have downloaded Page 1 and will work on completing it this week.  You can download it here:

Journal Page #1 (scroll to the bottom for links to the blank and pre-coloured pages)

I will share my completed page next Saturday and hope you will share yours as well! Happy Journaling!

Cheers,

A New Year... A New Challenge

In my blog travels, I came across a site by Christie Zimmer, called Grace Is Overrated.  She creates these incredible little pocket journaling books that she sells in her Etsy store here.  I love browsing through her posts to see her amazing art.

While surfing, I found that she had created a series of pages containing journaling prompts. And it got me thinking... wouldn't it be cool to complete one each week in 2013?  Think of all the inspiration for layouts and art journaling pages and projects that could come out of it, not to mention the not-so-mere fact that it contributes to my whole "Leave Your Legacy" challenge!

I emailed Christie straightaway to request her permission to use her artwork for this challenge and she graciously accepted!

On Dec 29th, I will download a page to complete and post a link to it in a blog post.  Then on the following Saturday, I will post my completed page from Week 1 (Dec 30th to Jan 5th) and will encourage you to link up your designed pages as well.  I will also post a link to a new page for the following week.  We will continue in this manner until the end of the year!

You can choose to print the coloured version to just fill out, or a printable version that you can colour yourself.  I've been loving my Spectrum Noir markers so I will do the latter.

I'm really excited about sharing this with you all and hope you will participate!  At the end of this project, I will have completed another Life List goal, just like in 2011.

Cheers,
