Superstar!

Tonight, we went to Connor's end-of-year party for his swim team.  This is where the coaches hand out awards for things like Best Swimmer (by age group), MVP (by group), Most Improved, Swimmer of the Year, etc.

I had mixed feelings about tonight.  Connor was really hoping to win an award tonight.  I didn't want to discourage him from positive thinking, but I was also worried that he would be severely disappointed if he didn't win.  He worked hard this year and I think he associated these awards with the fact that his coaches recognized the hard work and sacrifices he made this year.

I found myself holding my breath when they started to give out the awards.

Looks like I worried for nothing.

Money can't buy that kind of smile.  Nor can it buy a mama's pride.  Way to go, Connor - we're so very proud of you!!

In related news, Windsor's mayor, Eddie Francis announced that Windsor-Essex has won the bid to host the 2013 Summer International Children's Games!!  The only youth sporting event officially sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the ICG is an organization that fosters peace and friendship through sport for youth between the ages of 12-15 years of age.

Connor has set a goal to qualify for a spot in June 2013, and compete in the 13 year old category.  As per the swimming technical handbook for the 2009 Summer Games in Athens, there are only 2 to 6 swimmers per gender per team.  You can do it, Connor!

Looks like I'll be spending a lot of time at the pool over the next few years...
