Update on Dad and a Pub Share

Good news on the homefront!

My dad was released from the hospital and has been staying at my sister's place while he gains his strength.  He's doing fairly well and moves around with the aid of a wheeled walker.  Aili and I went out to Leamington to see him on Monday and had dinner with them.

We're playing it by ear, but he's hopeful that he will feel well enough to make the trip to our place for Thanksgiving dinner.  If not, we will bring dinner to his place! :)

On another note...

Earlier, I started sharing some of the layouts that I was blessed to have published in the Fall 2013 issue of Canadian Scrapbooker magazine, and then Life promptly took over and blogging has been sporadic at best.

Here's one of my favourite layouts that I completed at CropFest (in May!) that I was blessed to have published in the Fall 2013 issue of Canadian Scrapbooker magazine:

Supplies used:  Bazzill and DCWV cardstock; Heartfelt Creations patterned paper; Lily Bee Designs letter stickers; Silhouette Cameo; Jenni Bowlin Studio cut file (Torn Paper Border); Reklame Script font; Cherrry Lynn die; Maya Road banner pin; Stockade wooden heart; May Arts ribbon; Heidi Swapp distressing tool; Stampin' Up! glitter brad; Imaginisce metal button; Pioneer Woman Soft and Faded action (used on photo).

Love, love, LOVE this photo of Connor with his long hair... while I miss the thick, gorgeous curls, I certainly don't miss arguing with him about brushing it!

The May Arts wrinkled ribbon ties so beautifully!  I added a "vintage" (read: from my old stash!) trinket from Imaginisce at the centre and made a little collage of goodies around it:

The title was the biggest PITA - I love those Lily Bee letter stickers but they are such a pain to line up straight!  I think I stuck and re-stuck them at least three times, trying to centre the title.  And here's a tip - when I ran out of dark brown letters, I used an alcohol marker to colour a light-coloured one, rather than use a new sheet!

The journaling tag was cut using the French Pastry Doily die - another pain to make sure all those cuts are complete, but oh so worth it!  His name was added in the same Lily Bee letter stickers...

I found this quote a while ago and it popped into my head when I was sifting through old photos.  This photo was taken right around the time when Connor was having some issues with a few bullies and this quote wraps up everything I wanted to instil in him.

Hidden journaling reads:
My sweet boy.  You have had your share of troubles at school in the past.  Bullying really took a toll on your self-esteem and while I can now see that you are gaining confidence in your teen years, I see photos like this one, at age 8, and I can see the shyness and hesitancy in your eyes.

Just like this quote says, I wish I could convince you of your many extraordinary gifts, like kindness, generosity and artistic abilities... The list goes on.

I am sure that this difficult stage in your life will shape you into a more kind and compassionate person. It is my wish that you will eventually see, and believe in, everything that I see in you.

I love you.  Always.

Love, Mom.

Cheers,

  4. I hear you about the pain your son experienced. The joy and the pain of life for our children is so intense for us as mothers. Loving your layout - and the photo of your son reminds me so much of photos of my own son at that age, and the story reminds me of my son's as well. Our sons will be (and are) stronger, and more sensitive to the needs of others because of their struggles.
